HOW MANY DROPS IN AN OCEAN CAN AI HANDLE? | 2023

The project considers the meeting point between hydrological systems and the architectures of artificial intelligence. Taking the ocean as both subject and metaphor, the project speculates on how digital technologies absorb, model, and reconfigure the natural world. Here, water becomes a lens through which to observe the flows of information, the erasure of boundaries between physical and virtual environments, and the shifting role of the human within these networks. Rather than positioning technology as separate from ecology, the project traces their mutual dependencies—how data infrastructures mirror the complexity and scale of marine ecosystems, and how those ecosystems are increasingly mediated through digital forms. In doing so, it invites reflection on the futures we construct when the tools that map and imitate reality begin to overwrite it.
